ISOLATION DIARY ENTRY 4: I BEAT A PERSONAL RECORD!
I have a love-hate relationship with books.
While I absolutely want to soak in all the gems that I get from them, I’m a really slow reader. I used to try to outdo myself, but more recently I started to embrace my pace. I read one book per month and try to consume as much on-the-go content as I can. Before now, my personal reading record was 110 pages in one sitting and it was “Outliers” by Malcolm Gladwell – that book is one of my all-time faves. (You can get a copy of it here.)
Since this lockdown started, I’d hardly been able to read anything, except you somehow managed to make it into an IGTV fashion video. So imagine how excited I was when I started and finished a whole book at once!! I would tell you that it is 161 pages though, but y’all would start hating on me, trying to discredit my excitement, so I won’t say the number of pages. But yo I’m so excited!! *does happy dance*
“Steal Like an Artist” is a book that I would recommend for every creative and brand. It wasn’t on my reading list for this year, but I just got the e-book and scrolled through to see if it was something I’d like. I decided to take time out to read it in one sitting, and I did! I was so sad that it ended. I loved the informality in Austin Kleon’s tone. But guess what? I found out it’s a whole trilogy, so I got the other two books and my goal is to finish them before this month ends. Wish me luck!
Meanwhile, my actual book of the month, “The 5 a.m Club” is still less than halfway finished. I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure I don’t carry it over to next month. But even if I do, I’d take solace in the fact that I read three books in one month!! Cheers to growth!!
Also, would you like me to share my reading list for the year? Book reviews and recommendations? Let me know!
